The danger with a flooded crawlspace is mold. If the wet area isn't dried out properly, the homeowner is taking a huge risk that could end up costing thousand of dollars in mold remediation down the road. And more importantly, this will not be covered by insurance, so the costs would be an out of pocket expense for the homeowner. Companies such as Indiana Foundation Service or Americrawl can assist with drying out the crawlspace and encapsulating the entire area.
My recommendation to try and prevent your crawlspace from flooding is to have your sump pump checked periodically. Having a high water alarm or some kind of water sensor that will alert you when the sump pump fails would also be a good idea.
